In August 2008 the Chatham Islands District Council resolved that:
1. Submissions from the Hawkes Bay and Chatham Islands Smokefree Coalition and the Hawkes Bay District Health Board be acknowledged and received.
2. That Council confirms that the children’s playgrounds at Waitangi and on the Norman Kirk Memorial Reserve be smokefree.
